Character theme songs.
« on: March 01, 2010, 12:37:24 pm »
Right, so this has probably been done to some degree before, but anyone who has a modicum of knowledge of who I am and how I roll should have realised at some point this would be coming-- So come on people, introduce us to new music (or old music, or anything for that matter) by posting songs you think fit your character, or, if you're feeling daring, someone else's character! (please be nice and don't post anything rude about other's characters).

Wow me, people. >:( I demand entertainment.

As it's been some time I will start by a song I found that reminded me of Zafyris:
(Son of a Gun by KMFDM)
The general theme of the thing fits him, though some of the lyrics are obviously taken with a grain of salt, but it totally works. :D

And next, a song for Kaeri:
 ( 32  Flavours by Ani DiFranco )
It just kind of exudes the feeling of Kaeri to me a bit. o.o

And of course, Vakren:
( I Won't Back Down by Johnny Cash (originally Tom Petty) )
The Cash version speaks to me much more than the original, for some reason, probably because Cash is a tortured genius and that reminds me of Vakren too, but... yeah. :P

NOW SOMEONE ELSE DO SOME-- I'll post some for my own characters later.

For Kaeri... I actually have a number of theme songs.

The basis for her song is what Kaeri's inner spirit truly is.  This is the inner peaceful part of her that she keeps hidden beneath an outer veil of darkness, but it's the part of her that directs a lot of her decisions and keeps her from falling fully down the dark path, holding her to a strict neutrality.  This is a part of her that, thanks to the Dark Side's influence on her, she thinks to be weak, and so she disguises it as something else... covering it up because she feels her compassion will prevent her from doing what she has to do.  She manages to ignore this part of herself by saying she "does what she has to do," but it still guides her path, and it's for this reason that she has trouble killing people and, when someone has to die, often forces Zafyris to do it for her so she can maintain separation from what she feels has to be done and what her inner spirit wants her to do.

When she's alone meditating, trying to reconcile her actions with her conscience, this is the music that would play... although that aspect of her is rarely seen in RP, because, well, it only happens when no one else is around.

Kajiura Yuki - Fake Wings

You can hear in the lyrics the way she feels:

"Shine, bright morning light, now in the air the spring is coming.
Sweet blowing wind singing down the hills and valleys.
Keep your eyes on me - now we're on the edge of hell.
Dear my love, sweet morning light - wait for me, you've gone much father... too far..."

In everyday conversation with people, she tends to try to repress this aspect of herself, but it doesn't always work.  She often ends up simply voicing her more peaceful ideals in a heavy-handed manner... embodying her ideals in darkness that makes them seem impure and sometimes evil, while still maintaining the core ideology behind it.  This is her "bitter sweet" mode, and also isn't seen all that often, as she tends to be very reclusive and only has such moments with people she very closely trusts... of which there are very, very few, a number that could be counted on one hand.

Kajiru Yuki - Fake Wings/Bitter Sweet

The Kaeri most people see and interact with, though... she's repressed her emotions and inner desires to all but nothing, covered it entirely in darkness, and almost completely driven it from even her mind.  Her inner spirit has become perverted and dark, and by all external measures, evil.  However, even in this state, there are times when a glimpse of her true self will reveal itself through the darkness...

Kajiura Yuki - Fake Wings/Make Decision

This also serves well as Kaeri's "fight music."

In her absolute darkest moments, though, when she completely tosses aside all notion of peacefulness and completely surrenders to the Dark Side - a rare event, but one to be feared, as when this happens, she'll stop holding back in battle as she normally would - the whole fake wings theme is dropped entirely.  Once she gives in and lets her anger take control of her (something she goes to great extents to avoid, as she feels anger is just as much a weakness as compassion, as both distract you from what you need to accomplish), she becomes a void of pure darkness, and this is one of the rare cases where Kaeri becomes truly evil.  Thusfar, it's never happened in an RP, but I would say it's bound to happen eventually... unless someone can save her and bring her back to the sweet morning light that she's left behind.

For this situation, the best song I've been able to find is actually one I'm writing myself... entirely self-composed, and it's Kaeri's darkest theme.

Katherine A. Draper - Silent Fire (Working Title)

It's much easier to speak from a character's perspective in their songs, so these songs might get longer explanations much as Shadowcat's did, considering I can make these kind of judgments over my own creation where they were not so possible over others.
I'll start with the easiest right now-- Lachesis.

Stone Sour - Bother
All in all, the overall feel of this song speaks to me as something Lachesis feels daily-- it's one of those things she squirrels away and hides from the eyes of the every day Joe, but those closest to her would likely see moments of this kind of self-doubt, pinned in with a determination to see things through to the end-- it's funny how you can be utterly depressed and determined to see something to the end in a single breath.

Sick Puppies - You're Going Down
Probably what I would consider Lachesis' 'fight song', more than any other-- though it would likely be with members of the Order with her, or otherwise-- this is more of her 'group pride we'll stomp you' song.  She has theories on how the Galaxy should be, as most people should, and they involve a lot of people finding out that not everyone is happy to just sit idly by and let things fall into stasis.    That, and Lachesis has an idle kind of blood lust that is under played in her daily dealings, but comes out sometimes when she begins to fight-- it builds like a symphony in her and comes out violently.

Hurt - Forever
As it stands, this song kind of resonates both Vakren and Lachesis to me, considering the outcome could be that they both end up in a situation much like the lyrics of this song-- being fluid characters, prone to changes in behaviour and mood at any given time, it's likely that Lachesis will be batshit insane before all of her RP is done.

That's all I really have for right now, but I might post later.  It's nice to deviate from the heated debates sometimes, though.

And now onto Lilith, who is utterly and completely insane and power hungry-- that's her to a fault, so let's see what I've got.

Jalan Jalan - Lotus
It's kind of funny how I found this song through a film I didn't even know I'd enjoy, but I cannot imagine not having found it.  It's got this mix of a Chrono Trigger and Suikoden feel to it, and it feels light and floating, yet with that hint at a hidden insanity and purpose behind it, like someone hidden away in a tiny ball of crazy.

Mindless Self Indulgence - 3S (Stupid, Sadistic & Suicidal)
The lyrics fit, the overall theme of it fits, it's actually quite perfect.  That kind of head twitching insane song that basically speaks of her search for power more than any 'person' in particular.  She pretty much will see out power to a severe fault, putting herself in danger and not caring-- death is the only thing that can take her in her mind, and even that doesn't make her fear because honestly, if it takes her, she gets overcome by the power and it's the end result she wants.

I had more but I totally lost my train of thought so I'll go with that.

For Garin:  Bush - Everything Zen

For Keen:  Metallica - Master of Puppets

For Araka:  I'm really not sure...  His personality is only barely fleshed out, being basically a cookie cutter Chiss so far.  I'll have to figure it out later.

For Tyson:  Akeboshi - Wind

Hagork:Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani

Kage: Hey Mickey by Toni Basil

Draara: Blue by Eiffel 65

All my characters are bad asses, thus the songs chosen are those of the warrior mindset. Think of me and cower in fear when these songs are played.

Ass. :P But yes, I do think of you and cower and most of those songs pretty much make me terrified without you tied to them. :P
